I think US reception of this book got muddled up with a strange strain of patriotism.Kerriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13581470363339796352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825564497920015595.post-90321649974618484642009-08-05T19:16:05.991+01:002009-08-05T19:16:05.991+01:00I think I could have lived with the rant if the st...I think I could have lived with the rant if the story had then saved it, but as Bernadette says it became increasingly nonsensical.Rob Kitchinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05567424969308636082noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825564497920015595.post-25333018623012978092009-08-05T17:30:47.711+01:002009-08-05T17:30:47.711+01:00I haven't read this one although I have greatl...I haven't read this one although I have greatly enjoyed James Lee Burke's earlier books. The Tin Roof Blowdown sits on my TBR pile and after reading your review it might stay there awhile. It sounds similar to the post 9/11 book Blacklist by Sara Paretsky who was more interested in making a political statement than in telling a story.Uriah Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02046023583067265187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-825564497920015595.post-68382280892770375142009-08-05T13:54:38.424+01:002009-08-05T13:54:38.424+01:00Great review (of course what I really mean by that...Great review (of course what I really mean by that is "your opinion is very similar to mine therefore it must be right and good").

It felt like the story was an interruption to Burke's angry rant. I also thought story grew increasingly nonsensical. I hadn't read anything of his before and I can't say this one inspired me to pick up another.Bernadettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07641617609801125707noreply@blogger.com
