More with less

‘I need to find a way to invent time,’ Paul said, rubbing tired eyes.

‘There’s a solution to that; it’s called not taking on so much,’ Susie chided.

‘I’ve not taken on more, I’ve been asked to do more with less.’

‘Which amounts to the same thing.  You’re working too hard.  You’re overweight, unfit and heading for a heart attack.’

Paul shrugged.  ‘You know they’re cutting staff.  What’s more stressful – working hard or fretting about how we’re going to pay the mortgage?’

‘I’d sooner you be alive and destitute than in an early grave.’

‘Then we’d better invent some time.’

A drabble is a story of exactly 100 words.

That's the reality of it, Rob, and really well expressed here. I think there's a push to do more with less everywhere.
